CFOT P&PN Overnighter Recap

So, the CFOT P&PN Overnighter was awesome!  We missed our friends from MYGA dearly, and others that were unable to make it out.  But, we still enjoyed a great night of worship, teaching and fellowship.

We enjoyed some awesome testimonies from a whole mess of Corps on their I’ll Fight Day experiences.  We were able to hear how God moved in our communities, and it was blessing to hear how caught off guard people were when Christians decided to show God’s love through random acts of kindness.  Remember, just as Ephesians 5:1 tells us, we are to “imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.  Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.”

We were also challenged to think about John 4, and the woman at the well.  Remember, the interesting thing in this story is that the woman, who had had 5 husbands and was living with a man who wasn’t her husband, didn’t have to confess her sin to Jesus.  He did that for her.  It was then up to her to confront and deal with her sin honestly and openly with Jesus.  Once we are able to do that with ourselves, we can truly allow God to change our lives.

“Coming and going” seemed to be a theme that night, as we welcomed back Nate Hood from the US Military (who also played a duet with Jonathan Taube – a great rendition of “This Little Light Of Mine” infused with Z.Z. Top’s “La Grange”.)  We also said “good-bye” to a faithful few – Dietrich Hunter who will be attending Indiana Wesleyan  University, and Audrey Hickman who will be studying abroad this semester.

Photos from the night – including Fight Night – will be up soon!  So stay tuned!  Blessings!

I’ll Fight Day 2009

What is I’ll Fight Day?
I’ll Fight Day is a servant evangelism day for youth of The Salvation Army that will take place all across the world on Saturday, December 5th, 2009.

How can I take part in I’ll Fight Day?
Follow these steps:

  1. Read the list of suggested servant evangelism activities,
  2. Get your friends together and figure out what you want to do,
  3. Put your plan into action!

What else should I know about I’ll Fight Day?
Start planning now. Go over the provided list of servant evangelism examples, talk to your friends and figure out what you are going to do.
Pitch in. Some of the activities require you to spend your own money. The more people who you get to pitch in, the more you can do.
Take some pics. We want to know what your Corps did during I’ll Fight Day. You can post these pictures on the website after the event.

All projects are free—don’t accept any money!

Isaiah 58 | True Fasting

1 “Shout it aloud, do not hold back.
Raise your voice like a trumpet.
Declare to my people their rebellion
and to the house of Jacob their sins.

2 For day after day they seek me out;
they seem eager to know my ways,
as if they were a nation that does what is right
and has not forsaken the commands of its God.
They ask me for just decisions
and seem eager for God to come near them.

3 ‘Why have we fasted,’ they say,
‘and you have not seen it?
Why have we humbled ourselves,
and you have not noticed?’
“Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please
and exploit all your workers.

4 Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife,
and in striking each other with wicked fists.
You cannot fast as you do today
and expect your voice to be heard on high.

5 Is this the kind of fast I have chosen,
only a day for a man to humble himself?
Is it only for bowing one’s head like a reed
and for lying on sackcloth and ashes?
Is that what you call a fast,
a day acceptable to the LORD ?

6 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?

7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe him,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness [a] will go before you,
and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.

9 Then you will call, and the LORD will answer;
you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.
“If you do away with the yoke of oppression,
with the pointing finger and malicious talk,

10 and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday.

11 The LORD will guide you always;
he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail.

12 Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins
and will raise up the age-old foundations;
you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls,
Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.

13 “If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath
and from doing as you please on my holy day,
if you call the Sabbath a delight
and the LORD’s holy day honorable,
and if you honor it by not going your own way
and not doing as you please or speaking idle words,

14 then you will find your joy in the LORD,
and I will cause you to ride on the heights of the land
and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.”
The mouth of the LORD has spoken.

Chicago Temple Prayer & Praise Night

The Chicago Temple Prayer & Praise Night was a great night of worship, prayer, challenge and commitment. For those of you who were not able to go, go to our media page and check out the photos. Remember to pray for those who testified and keep up the commitments you made at the altar. Remember, although it may be hard, giving glory to God means that we do His will, not ours. It’s about the Father, not us! And good news, God will give us grace to follow Him and do His will.

Book the date now! October 31, 2008 is the Des Plaines/Halloween Prayer & Praise Night NEW LIFE! This is definitely an event that you will not want to miss, and you will want to bring your (unsaved!) friends too. And, as announced, come in your costume! It is not only hoped, but encouraged! And, if you don’t have any ideas, just take and every day things/people, and come as the zombie version of that. For instance, don’t come as a normal math teacher. Come as a zombie math teacher. Or, don’t come as Hannah Montana. Come as zombie Hannah Montana. Keep checking back to MYN.com for more updates about this exciting night.

Prayer & Praise Night Kick Off!

It’s time to kick-off the 2008-2009 Prayer & Praise Nights! The Chicago Temple Corps has agreed to host the historic first Prayer & Praise Night. Mark my words, it will go down in the annals of history.

Something you should know: we’ve decided to have a theme for this year. It’s nothing too big, just something to piece them together. We’re going with “Glory to God.” Why? Because we believe that it’s not about us, it’s about the Father. Because, above all, Jesus lived to give Glory to the Father, and as his disciples, we want to do that too.

So, come out for the kick-off, but, more importantly, come out for a night of prayer, worship, fellowship, and growth.

Be sure to bring:
-Your Bibles
-Your friends
-Your friends’ friends
-A focused attitude of worship

Also, while parking may not be extremely limited, it’s always a good idea to carpool.

See you there? Prove it! RSVP via our Facebook event.
