Here in the Youth Department we are extremely excited for an exciting year of awesome Divisional and Territorial youth events and experiences. Youth Ministry Trainings, a Young Adult Retreat, Prayer & Praise Nights, Youth Councils, I’ll Fight Day and more are all part of this year’s calendar.

To get the word out, and to get everyone pumped, we’re busy creating a very cool 2015-2016 Metro Youth Dates to Remember poster (coming soon!). With this poster, you will be able to have all of the dates and locations for various events at your fingertips, and will be proud to hang this up at home or school.

There are a variety of ways this information can be easily accessed:

  1. We will be distributing the posters at the first Prayer & Praise Night of the school year (@ Aurora Corps on September 18), and will continue to make them available throughout the year at P&PN’s, Youth Councils and other events.
  2. Get on Facebook and search for “Metro Youth Network.”
  3. Download the one up above.
  4. Lotus Notes: Go to the Divisional Bulletin Board and look under “Divisional Events.”

Good Ideas For I’ll Fight Day 2014

IFD14Clean

With I’ll Fight Day 2014 only being 47 days away, you better be planning something fierce already. If you haven’t started, get your butt into gear! Of course, you can’t pull this off on your own, so get your friends from the Corps together (probably wouldn’t hurt to invite your Youth Leader and/or Corps Officer, too), and start throwing out some ideas.

If you’re like me, and you need help coming up with ideas, there are a couple of places you can go to literally steal them. First of all, you should hit up www.illfightday.com. It has over 50 ideas crafted specifically for the purposes of I’ll Fight Day. There are a lot of service project/outreach ideas out there, but some don’t make sense for the subzero temps of December. The IFD website has thought through this stuff, so stop there. first. I particularly like the Phone Card Giveaway, the Single Mom Spa Day, and Laundromat Outreach. Not sure where to find these ideas on the website exactly? Just click the “How Does It Happen?” tab, and you’ll figure it out:

Another resource you might consider checking out is www.30hourfamine.org. The 30 Hour Famine is an awareness event created by World Vision that has service projects tied into it. Head over to their website, and click under Do The Event -> Plan Your Famine -> Service Projects:

I’ll Fight Day 2014 Is Just Around The Corner!

IFD14Clean

I’ll Fight Day is a Salvation Army youth servant evangelism day that will take place all across the world on Saturday, December 6th, 2014. I’ll Fight Day is a way for you to share the Gospel through practical acts of kindness: like giving out free hot chocolate, returning shopping carts or cleaning up at a mall food court. These acts are done “in Jesus name” for the purpose of sharing God’s love in a way that leads others to ask “Why are you doing this?”

This event is a local, youth-led initiative where you and your friends can decide how you want to serve others in your community. There are many helpful resources available to help you participate in this event. Instructions, resources and promotional graphics can be downloaded from the event website, www.illfightday.com.

The opportunities are endless for you to show the love of Christ in practical ways and help identify the Kingdom of God in your community. This is a great chance for you to join the revolution. I’ll fight to the very end! Will you?

For all you visual learners, here’s last year’s promo video to give you some ideas:

While women weep as they do now, I’ll fight;
While little children go hungry, as they do now, I’ll fight;
While men go to prison, in and out, in and out, I’ll fight;
While there is a drunkard left,
While there is a poor lost girl upon the streets,
While there remains one dark soul without the light of God, I’ll fight – I’ll fight to the very end!

Need An I’ll Fight Day Idea?

Is your Corps still looking for that perfect I’ll Fight Day idea, or are you looking for something to do above and beyond what you’ve already got planned? Well, we have just the right thing for you. Outreach doesn’t always involve a face to face interaction with someone from the community. Many times, outreach can be behind the scenes. The Metropolitan Division’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) ministry is in need of help for such an outreach.

You may know that our Division provides thousands of food boxes so that families can enjoy a nice Christmas meal. Before they are distributed at the local level, those boxes are put together at the EDS warehouse in Elk Grove Village. This year, their goal is 10,000 boxes, and the project will begin on Friday, November 30 and will end when they hit that goal.

Fortunately, EDS has been able to acquire enough volunteers for Friday, but they need volunteers to help on Saturday, December 1st (I’ll Fight Day!) and beyond. There will be three shifts per day: 8:00am-12:00pm; 12:00pm-4:00pm; 4:00pm-8:00pm. They have the capacity to operate three packing lines with 10 volunteers per line. Although they will be scheduling through December 8th, they may finish sooner and will notify you if the project has been completed by then. This is a great group project and they are glad to accommodate any size group you want to bring.

If you’re Corps might be interested, have your Youth Leader or I’ll Fight Day Coordinator hit EDS up by calling Meghan Pierson at (847) 709-6605, or by emailing her at [email protected]
