What’s up Metro Young Adults!
We write to encourage you to participate in a special InterMission / Ekklesia initiative. As you may know, on Saturday, November 3, Ekklesia (the Metro Division’s Young Adult Retreat) will be supporting the InterMission project which will enable your young adults to serve in a variety of Salvation Army urban ministries. Ekklesia will not run as a three day retreat this year.
The InterMIssion project was created because many of our own soldiers expressed a desire to experience practical inner city ministries such as homeless ministry, working with at risk-youth, or even hosting mock interviews to boost job skills. However, those same people were unaware that the Salvation Army – their very own church – was offering those very same opportunities in their own backyard. InterMission was created to connect the two, and allow the Army’s inner city ministry to grow even more.
The goal is that individual Corps will get together and decide what they will do to execute the purpose of InterMIssion (think of it as a Divisional I’ll Fight Day). Ekklesia 2012 is simply providing the date for that to happen. So here’s a simple step-by-step guide to follow for your planning purposes:
1. Talk about this event with the young adults in your Corps to get people on board
2. Decide what you want to do (your Corps Officers have all the information that outlines different InterMission opportunities)
3. Call the sites you wish to visit to make sure it’s doable
4. Serve!
The Youth Department is here to support you and your groups in any way we can. So if there’s anything we can do to help make your InterMission day a success, please do not hesitate to let me know! In addition, save the date for next year’s event – taking place on October 18-20, 2013 – which will run as a three day retreat.
May God’s peace be with you,
Enrique Pastor Azuaje, Captain
Divisional Youth Secretary
Metropolitan Division
